France Introduces Mandatory e-Invoicing

France Introduces Mandatory e-Invoicing

France Introduces Mandatory e-Invoicing and from 1st September 2026 companies established in France must adopt mandatory e-invoicing…

From 1st September 2026 France are specifying that large sized companies which are established and set-up in France, must adopt mandatory e-invoicing. SME’s are to begin a year later in September 2027.

The French have specified the use of a government approved supplier is recommended and have published a list of these recommended suppliers on their government website.

Do I need to use one of their approved suppliers?

No, you don’t. Those needing to submit e-invoices can choose either from:

  • the government supplied approved list of suppliers

  • use the government platform directly or

  • use a compliant solution which would mean any trustworthy company you feel comfortable working with (like VAT Digital).

The Digital Shift for France, The Netherlands and Moving closer to ViDA…

This move in France is similar to that of The Netherlands (read article) and is a small digital step towards a harmonised ViDA, it’s all about making the business paperless. By doing this companies are able to reduce their administrative costs, reduce fraud, reduce paper usage and storage, and essentially streamline all of their activity under one simple hub.

France is leading the way with this new mandatory release and are removing the risk for fraudulent activity by securing and storing invoices digitally rather than in paper files which are left sat on desks of in offices.

By making e-invoicing mandatory we should see a higher response rate and thus improve payment delays. The use of pre-filled forms should improve the competitiveness of businesses. By leveraging the digitalisation, e-invoicing allows for a reduction in payment times and therefore a decrease concerning the administrative burden associated with it.

For those concerned about the move to e-invoicing the French have put a hotline in place which is charged – from France, at the rate of a normal standard call: 0 806 807 807, these calls will be in the French language, however if you wish to speak to a consultant about moving to e-invoicing, then please contact VAT Digital and we can see how we can help you with the transition to e-invoicing.

Add ons Needed for e-Invoices

Please see below some new mandatory areas to add to your e-invoices following this new release.

  • SIREN customer number

  • delivery address of goods if different from the billing address

  • information on the invoice if the transaction consists exclusively of supplies of goods or services or consists of those two categories of transactions

  • the payment of VAT on debits where the supplier has opted for it
